The Best Family Trip to Berlin

Family vacations are the best. There is nothing quite like spending a fun time with those you love. And Berlin has plenty of fun stuff for you and your family to enjoy. Whether you are bringing the toddlers, grade-schoolers, or teens, you should have no problem finding something for everyone.

As fun as family trips can be, it is also worth pointing out that teenagers can be quite a handful especially during family trips. Visit Mominformed.com for this helpful guide on how to cope with teens.

There are two zoos in Berlin as well as parks full of playgrounds and space to run. You can also enjoy some animals up close at Mauerplatz or Görlitzer Park. See the water creatures at AquaDom or visit one of the kids’ museums. But leave your parcels and large bags with a suitcase storage locker in Berlin first.

Parks

Berlin Zoological Garden

Berlin Zoological Garden opened in 1844, making it one of the oldest zoos in the world. They boast over 15,125 animals of 1,460 species on almost 90 acres. They also have a large aquarium with over 7,600 marine creatures. The little ones will love the children’s zoo where they can feed and pet the animals.

Volkspark Friedrichshain

With 121 acres, Volkspark Friedrichshain is the oldest park in Berlin. There are plenty of green spaces to enjoy, or you can take a hike in the woods, stroll along the path of monuments, and get some selfies with the Fairy Tale Fountain. Rock climbing and biking, skateboarding and cycling, they have it all there.

Tierpark Berlin Zoo

Founded in 1955, Tierpark Berlin Zoo has 400 acres with over 7,250 animals in 850 species. Tierpark is the largest animal park in Europe and features many rare and endangered animals like the takin, muskoxen, striped hyenas, and Siberian tigers. You can also ride on the train for free.

Farms

Charlottenburger Ziegenhof

Also known as the Berlin Goat Farm, this fun place is full of great activities. The farm has different animals on exhibit all the time, but goats are the main feature. You can also enjoy the swiss chalet, feed the chickens, play on the playgrounds, and just learn how to run a goat farm.

Görlitzer Park

Görlitzer Park was started to help kids learn more about nature. Getting the children out of the schools and into the parks was the main focus. At this park, there are gardens as well as geese, ducks, rabbits, sheep, donkeys, and pigs to enjoy. They also have playgrounds and a café.

Kinderbauernhof

The Kinderbauernhof Farm is a sweet little petting zoo in the middle of a large park with playgrounds. They have sheep, pigs, goats, horses, and lots of chickens and geese running around. They also have a barn full of guinea pigs and rabbits to play with. The donkeys are pretty cool too. This is a fun place for kids and adults.

Museums

Legoland Discovery Center

It may sound like a playground, and it is, but it can also teach you and your kids some cool stuff. Let them find out how a Lego brick is made, find out about energy and gravity with Lego cars the kids make and fly with Merlin’s apprentice. They even have a 4D cinema and a food court.

Spy Museum

What kid (and adult) doesn’t want to pretend to be a secret agent? The Spy Museum will teach you how to be a spy and lets you in on the secrets of all the spy tricks. Find the bugs in the room, look for clues, use a cipher machine to read secret messages, and see over 300 pieces of spy equipment.

MACHmit! Museum

This is not your typical museum. Made especially for kids of all ages, your kids can see what 1 million ants do when they are bored, make something beautiful out of wood, or find out how books are made. They even have a monster science institute where you can meet magical beasts.
